Wed/Thurs Aug 23 & 24: The Soo, up close and personal

We had a couple of gloomy/cloudy/rainy days to see the sights, as we were waiting for the weather to improve.  In no particular order:

Our marina, and the area around it, are part of the Roberta Bondar Park- which honors Canada’s beloved first female astronaut. Here she is with her no-nonsense hair cut -

This is how an ice hockey-mad culture practices during the summer. I’m a little confused by the short (stick but no legs?) human on the left…

Every self-respecting city now has a LOVE sign/sculpture for tourists.  After all, if you didn’t take a pic of it ... it didn’t happen.  Here they’ve even given people a legit place to put locks.  Smart…

IDK-I just though it was a cool urban reflection.

This says ‘watch for snow falling from the tent’…. and we did, I swear.  No joy.

Now THIS is a propeller.  And even it had suffered a strike, which Rick is pointing out.  And a deep scratch.  So I feel better about our strike.  At least we could put our prop in the trun of the car and go get it fixed!

Last year we planned to get Beaver Tails in Upper Canada Village, but they were closed when we got there.  Quel domage!  So this year it was at the top of the list.  It's basically fried dough with sugar of various forms on top.  So sweet they make your teeth hurt - but we managed to eat the whole thing.

'Cheese cake and Scor bar'!

'Nutella with choc brownie and tiny marshmallows'!

A terrible picture of the boarder crossing into Canada at the Soo.

A museum we DID NOT go to see.  You can tell we are getting burned out.  Not just any museum will do any more...

After a 16-mile bike ride we did some laundry and then went to see the Barbie movie. My goodness did they have fun with costumes and sets!  And Mattel was very brave.  We really enjoyed it - a feminist manifesto from a most unlikely icon.

From our bike trip.

Back at the marina this strange little craft had pulled up.  It was SO stubby, and just bristling with fishing poles.  Like a seaworthy hedgehog!

Thurs night we were treated to the dulcet tones of local band Mustang Heart.  No, I'm not sure what they played.  The acoustics in the tent near the marina were terrible and much of it just sounded like noise.  But A for Effort.

We waited so long to get to Canada - now that it is over it feels very strange.  Bittersweet.....
