Tues Aug 22: Agawa Canyon Train Tour

Today's adventure involved a different kind of conveyance - a train!  We got tickets for the Agawa Canyon Train Tour.  This 10-hour trip travels 100+ miles deep into the wilderness of the Soo's Algoma Region.  It's 4 hours out and back, with time to hike at the Canyon Park in the middle.  It's possible that we were lured by the language 'moose' and 'panoramic views' - mostly it just seemed like a fun thing to do that was different from boating.  It's good we had mild expectations, since those were met! I think the best time to do this trip would be during fall color (colour)... All views of any kind, wildlife and other, were pretty limited by the dense tree growth along the track.  But we enjoyed the hiking, and change of pace, very much.

A curved trestle is, apparently, somewhat unusual and had everyone running from one side of the train to the other for a view.  Possibly because it was the only view to be had?!  We did catch a glimpse of Lake Superior far in the distance.  And there were several lovely lakes seen between tree branches...

The Canyon Park did have wonderful views.  Especially after climbing 300+ steps to the Lookout Pt.

How great is the waterfall reflection!!

Up and up we go!

Looks like a little train board.

We had a nice picnic lunch on our way back, with the usual unusual chip selection.  These chips are all dressed up, with no where to go but into our stomachs!

This was the main activity for most people on the way back.  The train movement/noise was very soothing - a nice change from our usual boat scenario.

Back at the ranch it was leftovers and route planning.  We have now gone as far north as we will on the Great Loop, and it is time to turn our attention to the US and moving south... Sigh.  Bittersweet.
