Sun Aug 6: Parry Sound to Alexander Passage' Rohrbach anchorage'

We didn’t have far to go today, so we delayed a bit and Rick gave me a haircut on the docks. Everyone passing by had lots to say about that!  It's basically the same cut he has - shaved close on the sides and back, and a loose little mop on top (his is spiky, mine is curly).

This is our tortured route today.  In and out of rocks all along the Small Craft Channel.  Hangdog Channel, which our friends Yvonne/Michael told us 'was quite an adventure',  was...well...quite an adventure.  Narrow with several 90 degree turns.

Remember how we keep red to one side and green to another, depending on what kind of channel it is?  Does it look to you like these are lined up with no space in between?!  Yes, to us as well.  It was a 'serpentine' driving day.

The day started out lovely, and it was Sunday, so we had lots of company on the water.

It's not our fault they laid the regatta course through the main channel - but we did feel badly about waking the heck out of these little sailboats, in our hurry to get out of their way.

A bit hard to see, but this is a BIG Osprey nest.  You can tell it is old by its size - they get built up higher every year, sometimes by the same birds, sometimes not.

We did slow down for this passel (would 'paddle' be the collective noun?) of kayakers/SOPs - at least they stayed out of the channel.

And company in the air - this is the same 1950s plane we flew in yesterday!
Some people with their own island 'cottage' and float plane!

Cutie pea light house!

Interesting modern house, with one bubble window.  This one warrants its own mention in the cruiser guides!

Deadly, but so beautiful...

When we got to our no-name anchorage these people were just setting up.  They put down an anchor, AND tied lines to BOTH shores, and set up a little float ramp for their dog.  Later they made a campfire on the shore and the smoke gave it a real camping feel.  We made friends with them later when he dingy-ed over to discuss the weather (there is some coming). ((I have decided there are only two kinds of weather - that which is currently happening, and that which we are worried will soon happen))

The dark clouds had come in, but it was still and perfect.  Rick went fishing, and we ended up with fish for dinner.

We were anxious enough about the anchoring that we pulled up the anchor once to see what was on it (weed and SO. MUCH. MUD.), and then reset it firmly.  The other boat assured us it was a good bottom, so we relaxed, enough though we know there is some wind and rain coming...

Because this anchorage does not have an official name, as far as we can tell from the charts, we have claimed it as Rohrbach Anchorage - and thus shall it be known from here forward!

We went to bed calmed by the serenity, and looking forward to gentle rain on the hatch during the night.

PS: New feature, suggested by Betty Mom, you can call in with comments if you can't post them on the blog.  Available only to our readers!  For a small fee...

  1. What kind of fish was caught for dinner? Who does the cleaning??? That house! Criminal to not have more windows when it has that kind of view!
