Fri Aug 11/Sat Aug 12: R&R in Killarney

The first thing Rick said to me Fri am, after letting me sleep in, was ‘want to walk to the bakery?’… It’s like I created him in a computer program-perfect in every way!!

We had a lovely 2 days in Killarney:

It’s very picturesque and wild.

It’s also pretty remote, and with two well-known resorts.  So this is how the cool people get there.

We checked Herbert Fisheries, famous for its fish and chips, for lunch. This cute bus is how it used to look.

Now it looks like this-bigger, but less fun, in my opinion.

At the suggestion of some friends we got the dingy down on Sat and went with another couple to see Covered Portage Bay. It’s an anchorage known for its rocky landscape, so we wanted to see it, even though we will give it a miss as we decided it’s too narrow for our next episode of the beloved series, When The Anchor Drags.

Love this red-hulled boat against the white rock!

On the way back to Killarney we had a couple fun sightings:
We don’t know what to say about this-Civil War Ironclad repurposed ??!

Don’t see a ATV on a boat very often. At least we don’t….

While we had the dingy down we took it grocery shopping.  That’s a fun first for us!

Rick hefting the giant paddle that honors the ancient and modern human-powered modes of transport common to the region.

We took a rocky hike/scramble out to the lighthouse point.

Nice that we saw the front from the water and the back from land.  As Rick said-the hike anchored us on the land, once again.

Sat night we helped gather all the Loopers in the area (17 boats) to celebrate the couple (boat Jema) in the front. They ‘crossed their wake’ (finished their loop) in Killarney and got their gold flag! We are in the back on the left.

Other then that it was the usual-laundry, a dramatic rainstorm, boat cleaning (Rick), napping (me), etc.  We will get back on the road tomorrow.
