In which the glory that is Port Jefferson is revealed ...
Route du Jour |
Earlier in June we had a briefing, via Zoom, from the Loopers association regarding LIS - and Port Jefferson was mentioned as a great harbor to visit. Let me tell you, right up front, that those people were smoking some serious CRACK
But first, on the way there, the water was so glassy and still, and I was so bored, I had to take a nap to make the time pass.
Do you see anything interesting in this picture? Nope - NOTHING. ALL. THE. WAY. TO. PORT JEFFERSON. |
I was so bored I imagined into being a Hong Kong Junk. |
Finally - a big, open harbor, easy to enter and with plenty of mooring balls. And a giant ferry - going to CT. OFTEN. Very NOISILY.
And, of course, it was HOT! The heat wave that had affected much of the rest of the country had reached us and the weather channel app kept informing us that we were under an “extreme heat advisory”. No shit. We're literally IN IT, stupid app - and you weather people in your air conditioned offices, you...
At least we had a nice shower to look forward to in the marina. The website for the mooring company mentioned a town dock with showers, laundry and services. CRACK - I'm telling you. Turns out that everything is closed because of COVID and they 'forgot' to update the website.
This is a fairly modern expression - a take on Resting Bitch Face. Which I had. In spades. See above - no showers or laundry. |
Hunger drove us to take the launch/water taxi into town (still carrying our bathroom stuff) to explore and find some dinner. It may once have been a cute town, but the pall of death was in the air. Many of the stores and restaurants were closed and/or for sale. Eventually we found a Mexican restaurant and ordered dinner to take back to the boat. We were sweaty and tired and dinner was, as Claire says, incredibly......OK.
Looks good from here, doesn't it?! |
But this is the reality - a massive electricity generating something that runs all night. Right next to the mooring field. |
So you did not get right on Zillow and pull up listings? #falseadvertising from your own people!
