In which we press on, even with sad hearts ...
The Claire & Will peanuts spent last night on the boat, so that we could easily put them in an Uber to LaGuardia airport this morning. I must have had something in my eye, because I got a little sniffly. We had planned the trip for so long, and it went by so quickly. And NOBODY SAID THANK YOU... Oh dear - did I say that last part out loud?? Maybe the sniffles were because I clearly did a TERRIBLE job of teaching manners.
It is time to turn our attention to this next part of the trip:

Route de Jour |

I woke up in order to see the sun come up over the city. I guess I have been replaced by an alien pod-person who can get up in the morning, because it was my own idea. Totally WORTH IT!
The endlessly interesting, and constantly changing, NY architecture distracted us from our empty-nest sadness.

Some Escher-type thing

This is absolutely my new favorite thing in NYC. Called Little City Island, is a huge new park that reclaims old wharf space in the most interesting way.
|
Passing under the George Washington bridge we put NYC in our rear view mirror.

Bye Bye NYC... |

Just after the GW Bridge the Harlem River comes in on the right. It's the river that cuts Manhattan in half and makes it an island. We discussed taking this through Harlem and back to the East River, but decided we were ready to head north. Maybe there will be cooler weather 15 miles up the river???

Tappan Zee Bridge, just south of Sleepy Hollow.
|
Coming into Half Moon Bay we could see that people were still out enjoying the long weekend.
|
Rafted together.

The little town across from us had had a rain-delay on their fireworks, so tonight was firework night. AGAIN! I'm almost fireworked out...

Featured Boat Name (FBN) is someone at our marina trying to BE US. But that's impossible - we are unique. Anyone with more than one horizon is trying too hard.

Love the sunrise pics and the Tappen Zee bridge architecture
ReplyDeleteSounds like you got a good bite of the big apple and to see it from the water!
You will pass by Tarrytown which is where my FIRST HOME was...and then near New Paltz where I lived briefly after graduation. ..I will continue to enjoy living vicariously through my upscale vagabond friends!! And by the way, Colin says hi!
ReplyDeleteSo I went to Syracuse U and I worked for GE for 3 years in Utica and Schenectady...Loving the route!
