Mon Nov 4 - In which we are accompanied by dolphins

Beaufort, NC to Mile Hammock anchorage.

Up at about 6 am due to the time change.  OK – I was NOT up at 6pm, but Rick is like a golden retriever in the morning and so happy to stretch and yawn and generally greet the damn day that I was essentially awake.  Just on principal I refused to get up right away.

Our intention was to pump out the holding tank but there was no access to the dock at the pump out area so we headed out (poor Rick will be up tonight worrying about where our poop is going to go IF our tank fills up.  Which, I will point out, the gauge does not indicate is going to happen).  We cruised along the Camp LeJeune military base part of the day, and heard distant booms that we assumed were live firing exercises.  We had been warned to call ahead to make sure that the AICW would not be closed for live exercises.
Hat Leash - made by Rick...  We are taking orders...

It was a Dolphin Day, with lots of them frolicking around the wide shallow areas!

At the Mile Hammock anchorage, we found the next thing for Rick to worry about.  When you put out your anchor you need to let out 5-7 X the depth (plus the height of your boat, also factor in the tide and wind – I always did hate math) in anchor chain.  We have not idea how long our chain is.  It’s marked but no one gave us the code to decipher the colors.  Awesome…  We are guessing – it’s a good thing Rick can gauge length.  We need to get a handle on the color system.  Fortunately, it was a calm night and all we had to worry about were the 8 other boats and the fact that you have to stay away from the boat ramp where the Navy Seals practice.  I’m not making that up.
