Fri Nov 3: Green Turtle to Panther Bay Anchorage

We thought about polishing the other side of the boat this morning, but decided to get a move on.  So we pulled out of the slip and headed to the fuel dock for the last fuel expense of this season.  Where we had to circle and W A I T when 2 other boats, who had the same idea but were faster, got there first. This competition for resources is something I won't miss about the latter half of this boating season.

But soon enough we were out of the marina and headed down the Barkley Canal, which connects the Barkley and Kentucky Lakes. A big National Recreation area 'Land Between the Lakes' sits between these two LONG lakes, and our plan was an anchorage on its shores.

First, though, we had wind against current to beat through. I even had to lie down for a bit -we haven't had anything this choppy for a while. This helo was out enjoying the wind.  They looked to be practicing and got low enough to the water to throw up a wake.

SO many bald eagles along the way - I know they are scavengers, but they are still majestic!

The anchorage was just what we needed to restore our feelings about boating.  It was calm, quiet and isolated - full of birds and fish jumping.

We had to look this guy up in Ricks’s bird book-it’s a White Pelican!

One of the reasons we can see all these things is that Rick got some of our isinglass upgraded in Green Turtle, so that they aren’t cloudy!

Ooooooo-so CLEAR!

You can see how cloudy the rest of the upper enclosure is on the right.  We are too cheap to do the rest.

We only had to share with one other boat, who came in early evening - fortunately they were quiet.....and picturesque!

NOW we remember why we have enjoyed the Loop.  Good night!
