I guess we are out of practice in anchoring out. There was such an over-night racket that I had to eventually get up and read. There was a lot of hull slap due to the rainstorm, and the anchor chain was grinding from side to side for some reason we are still trying to puzzle out. Ah well-we saved money not staying in a marina.
Most of today we listened to out latest audiobook- Patron Saint of Last Chances. It’s lighthearted, funny and heart warming. All of which we needed to get us across the 4 hours of chop that was Lac Saint-Pierre.
SOMEone is enjoying the wind and chop! |
We had planned to anchor near Sorel, but looking at the chart it was clear that we needed to get closer to Montreal, so we went further to a tiny anchorage at I'le-Aux-Cochins. Tee-Hee. The Isle of Pigs! Little known cousin of The Bay of Pigs. Even though it was a quiet anchorage we were a little worried as we were just upstream from a small dam. If the anchor dragged overnight we would head downstream to potential disaster. (I guess we just need SOMETHING to worry about). We needn’t have worried as our little anchorage was the quietest place we have ever been! No wind, no hull slap, no noise at all except for the call of a bald eagle a few times during the evening. With the small river current keeping us steady we had one of the most pleasant nights we’ve had in a long time.
Nothing happening - no wind, waves, huge tidal shift, rain, squall warnings, passing freighters, zero visability, hull slap, anchor noise - AHHHHHHH. |
So glad you had a good night's experience! SO well deserved!
