Sun July 17: Burlington VT to Rouses Pt NY (Gaines Marina)

Well, hello again!  Please join us in welcoming our first, and probably last, guests of the 2022 season: Michael and Linda Duffy.  Much of Mike's childhood was spent visiting the Rohrbach house, and you can imagine what shenanigans those two nerds got up to.  (I'll give you a hint - these may have involved prank phone calls, vacuum cleaner motors, and fire hoses - we can get Mike to tell us more stories later).  We got together Sat night for dinner, and then, having been compatible over dinner, cast off together on Sunday.

Ice-breaker dinner (courtesy of Rick's mom, Betty Mom) at the Skinny Pancake - a Burlington institution.  Thanks, Betty!!

You've been listening to my drivel for a long time now, and I thought you might appreciate a different perspective.  So, for the first time in Blue Horizon's history, we are turning the blog over to guest contributors.  Mike and Linda will be with you for the next few days (I'll be watching to be sure they don't run us ashore)....  Take it away M & L - tell us about your 'three hour tour'...

Linda - who always has cute hair!
Mike - doing his George Clooney impression.

We'd been told to pack light since quarters were close, so we and our two-ton luggage arrived aboard the Blue Horizon Sunday morning for our first tour.  This trip started like most...loading up the vehicle with clothes, food, laptops, and a fill-up of gas...$849.00 later, off we went!

                                              Sticker-shock alert!

For the four hours of the trip we crossed the northeast portion of Lake Champlain.  For us, this would be the only portion of the trip that would begin and end in the US.  The significance of this took an incredible toll!

With Linda napping and Melanie piloting, Rick and Mike escaped mid-deck where they could freely talk about all things boating and mechanical.  The nerd gene runs happily deep with these two;)

We tied up at Rouses Point--a really nice marina--where Rick expertly maneuvered a 180 degree reverse docking with a triple flip.  After our questionable level of "helping," we scooted off to explore the township.

Though we didn't learn much about the local history, we did discover a home touted as a stop on the Underground Railroad

as well as three "Hometown Heroes" sharing the Duffy surname.

When you shanghai the blog, you get to brag about appropriated relatives!

The day ended with a beautiful tangerine and crimson sunset and surprise fireworks.
