In which we experience speed ..
Rick speaking:
Last night was the big event: the presidential debate. As the battle
started Mel hid under the covers while I listened to the 'debatacle'. She just wanted me to report positive news
in the morning. There wasn't really much...
Aside from seeing our friends and getting the outboard motor fixed, we wanted to check out Colton's Point Marina as an option for winter storage of Blue Horizon. Lynn and Carolyn store their boat here and have for a couple of years, so it seems like a good option. We have been debating what to do with the boat during the winter months (Mel here - some of us are just trying to be supportive listeners. Others of us are dithering). We could, of course, turn around and go back south to warmer climates. Many cruisers and people who live aboard spend the winter months in Florida and this time of year many boats are heading south (Mel here - that's a solid NO. Some of us have seen plenty of FL/GA/SC/NC). The other option is to find a marina that will winterize the boat, take it out of the water and store it "on the hard" (on land) from November to beginning of May.
This year, although we did toy with the idea of taking the boat back down just to North Carolina, we finally decided to leave her in a marina on the Chesapeake so that we can get an early start on the loop next year. Colton's Pt Marina is in the process of re-birth with new, young, energetic (and possibly masochistic) owners and work is going on to upgrade and improve the facility. The staff is great and very helpful. The price is right for overwinter storage but the marina is in the middle of nowhere! So we will keep this as the back-up plan and will visit one more place before we make our final decision.
We needed to re-provision and were able to borrow Lynn and Carolyn's car, a cute little Mini-Cooper. As we pulled out of the parking lot Lynn shouted, "hey, its a sport model so you can go really fast". I put my foot on the accelerator and we were pressed back into our seats. It is strange to be in a vehicle that goes faster than 8 mph, but as the speedometer moved passed 45 mph we both began feeling a bit queasy so I slowed down to a more reasonable 35 mph! Who would have thought?
We hit the usual highlights - Food Lion and Ace Hardware (Rick needed plumbing fittings because of course he did - SOMETHING will need to be fixed in the next 24 hours)... Had to get some snacks and drinks because we meeting FRIENDS... AGAIN!! We are socially distancing but have taken masks off in order to 'docktail'.

Boat name of the Day |
Ok, so "College Fund" made this financial advisor almost spit her iced Americano out. That is the boat name of the day. And good for them!
